English Minister says the UK will regulate online gambling
Caborn and Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell expressed the UK’s displease from the American anti online gambling law.
The secretary outlined its position that the banning of online gambling will only lead to the online gambling industry going underground and risking player safety. She compared the U.S unlawful Internet Gambling Act to the 1920’s prohibition on Alcohol which only drove consumers into committing criminal acts.
The unlawful internet gambling act which was approved back in September and prohibits financial institution from transferring fund to online gambling companies, caused a drastic impact on the shares of publicly traded, gambling related companies in the London stock exchange.
After the approval of the law it was speculated that other countries will follow suit and will pass similar laws in their parliaments, it now appears that the goal of the UK government is quite the opposite. The regulation of the online gambling industry will assure that companies abide by laws and are subject reviews and restrictions. A status that assures players that they are playing in a safe environment and that their personal and financial information is secured.
The Minister however pointed out the UK will follow the treaties they signed and will extradite people who are wanted in the U.S for charges related to online gambling. "We will not acknowledge people who operate illegally." He said.
